Session on “Key Milestones in Typical Child Development and Identifying Potential Issues”

A CPD session on “Key Milestones in Typical Child Development and Identifying Potential Issues” was conducted by Chandrika, a Special Educator, focusing on children aged 3–10 years. The session explored the five critical domains of development: *physical, **cognitive, **social-emotional, **language, and **adaptive skills*. Ms. Chandrika provided insights into age-appropriate milestones in these areas, emphasizing how deviations might signal developmental concerns.

A key highlight was the discussion on *executive functioning*—a set of cognitive processes including working memory, self-regulation, and cognitive flexibility. Chandrika explained how these skills underpin academic performance, problem-solving, and emotional control.

The session also addressed *red flags* in development, such as delayed speech, difficulty forming relationships, or struggling with basic motor tasks.  Ms.Chandrika stressed the importance of recognizing these signs early to ensure timely intervention and support.

What made the workshop particularly engaging was the use of live examples from the school environment, enabling participants to connect theory with real-life observations. The session encouraged lively participation, with teachers sharing their experiences and discussing practical strategies to support students facing challenges.

Overall, the session was informative, interactive, and practical, equipping educators with the knowledge to better understand and address developmental needs in their students.
